Tahini has appeared in this lil blog several times since its divine conception (and subsequent birth) in 2015. 

Side note: can NOT believe we've been doing this shit for three years.

It was a different time back then. There was a little more sass (because Beau was 21 and sassy), a lot more food content, and much much less *us*. Well, bitches, it's 2018 and we are alive and we are here with more food content and we just referred to an entire grouping of people as "bitches" so apparently the sass is back, too. (Actually really sorry about this). 

Anyway, if we're talking food we're talking food and there's really no way to talk about food on this blog without looking at the all star food groups: cheese, matcha, tahini, matcha, matcha, tahini, and kale. This post is dedicated to that one special darling made of ground up sesame seeds... tahini. 

OH girl, we love you. 

In the past few years of this somewhat mediocre website, there was little Tahini Overnight Oat Friend, Tahini Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Brother, Tahini Strawberry Blondie Sister, and that's actually it. A small family, really, but nonetheless a family. 

Today, we introduce you to Tahini Banana & Blueberry Jam Smoothie Cousin. It's unclear as to where the adults are in this family but... whatever this is our weird tahini fan-fiction so we can do whatever we want. 

This smoothie is the birth child of us having nothing to do and getting self conscious about the amount we've been posting to this blog, so, there. Yas, honesty, slay, honesty. 

So we started messing around with our regular post-workout smoothie which is almond milk + vanilla whey protein + banana + peanut butter + sugar. We knew we wanted to use tahini so gtfo peanut butter it is sesame's time to shine. And then... since we know tahini and jam works well together... we threw in a heaping spoonful of blueberry preserves. The sugar can get outta here cause there's plenty enough in the the preserves to sweeten this thing up. Boom. Done. 

The result is a smoothie that's filling and kind of healthy and has a decent serving of protein. We're only using one scoop of 365 brand whey protein powder which has 16 grams of protein, but you can always go ahead and use two scoops if desired because #gains.

TB&J [Tahini & Banana & Blueberry Jam] Protein Smoothie

makes 1

  • 1 cup plain unsweetened almond milk (or any other milk of your choosing, tbh)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 2-3 tablespoons tahini
  • 2 tablespoons blueberry jam or preserves 
  • 1 scoop (roughly 21.5 grams) of your favorite vanilla protein powder (we used 365 brand vanilla whey)
  • handfull of ice

Combine all ingredients together in a blender - we're using our NutriBullet - and blend up until smooth. Add a dollop more tahini and jam or preserves to swirl in if desired. Enjoy!
